Just got my mini on Tuesday. I played with Dell's Ubuntu for about an hour and thought that it was pretty decent - a good attempt at introducing new folks to Ubuntu. If Dell isn't offering much Ubuntu support anyway, I wonder why they stuck to the LTS version, though.
Anyway, after I got my fill of Dell's Ubuntu, I wiped the machine clean and installed Ubuntu 8.10. I followed the instructions found here: http://www.ubuntumini.com/2008/10/user- ... -ibex.html
Everything works great. Ubuntu 9.04 comes out in a week and OpenBSD 4.5 comes out on May 1st, so I'll be doing a lot of playing around with the mini 9 soon enough. One of the main reasons I purchased the mini 9 was to have a machine to play with without worrying about breaking something and losing my main machine and my data. I run Ubuntu on my primary desktop and love it, but I've wondered if I could get by with OpenBSD as my main desktop, and I've also been wondering if I'd be better served with Kubuntu or Xubuntu (I run a pretty bare-bones setup - nothing flashy on the desktop at all). Now that I have this machine, I can test any system and configuration I want. If I find one I really, really like, then I can migrate my desktop to that without the growing pains.
This is all just a wordy way to say that I love my Mini 9, and the advice I've received from this forum has been amazing.

I can't believe the stats for dual-boot are so low. Anyway, I added my vote to the poll for "bootloader with OSX and Windows (7)". Both of these operating systems are amazing on the mini9. Of course, you need a larger SSD to install both with space to spare. :-/ (Gotta save some $$$ for a 64G RunCore now).
If you're at all interested, install OSX first (GUID), and Win7 thereafter with EasyBCD to manage the boot. The basics are well covered in this thread (pg3):
I had a few snags along the way, but it was worth the long hours, eye strain and headaches ... Mini9, you rule!! (Thanks to Google too ... the mac install loop was frustrating for awhile but a few quick searches found me the answers I needed).

The Mini 9 ships with XP or Ubuntu. People who buy them aren't necessarily visiting here to get tips on running (or even installing those OSes) on their Mini 9s. However, this is undoubtedly *the* location for getting info on performing an OS X install, so naturally those people are over-represented.
