thanks to this great forum, I'm almost done with setting up my Mini after a clean install of XP.
There are just 3 questions I'd need your help with (I tried the Dell chat, but they wanted to let me pay for support, as it's software-related...phew).
1. Uncompressing/Indexing C:
I read different things about that. Does Uncompressing really increase the performance?
I tried to uncompress, but some of the files got me an error message as they were in use. How can I avoid that? Boot in safe mode?
Or I might just leave it compressed as it was when I got it. I'd really like to avoid to have some files compressed and some uncompressed.
Also, what about the indexing? Should that be switched on or off?
2. Battery Meter/Wireless Switch
After I manually installed all the drivers from the Dell support site, there was still one unknown device with a yellow sign in the device manager. It disappeared after I installed the Battery meter tool (why?!)
But the tool isn't visible/accessable in the taskbar as it was when I got the Mini. Where is it?
3. Conficker/Downadup Patch
One last thing I was wondering about, something a little different: I wasn't online with my Mini yet, and still have to do all the Windows updates since SP3.
Would you recommend applying the Conficker/Downadup patch before going online? I would do the Windows updates immediately, but maybe that's enough time to get infected. I have AntiVir 9 and ZoneAlarm installed, however.
What did you do?
