CNET Netbook performance comparison - 10-30-2008, 07:49 PM
http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/hp-mini ... g=txt;page
CNET reviewed the new version of the HP mini note and posted a chart comparing encoding performance. The Dell mini shows a small lag behind the others. I believe the netbooks are all using the same Atom processor so I would have thought the Dell would be in the same pack as the others but it is on its own at the back.
Any reason why performance would differ from the other netbooks?
I'm getting 3 to 4 hours per charge on the standard Ubuntu Dell Mini 9, which exceeded my expectation. Is it possible the Dell is tweaked for battery life over performance?
This is not a complaint as I prefer the longer battery life.

The 8gb drive is the EXACT same performance as the 16gb.
There was a thread awhile back here where someone upgraded to CL4 ram when he went to 2gb and saw a dramatic performance improvement. Maybe the stock ram sucks? I'd also imagine the bios settings Dell uses are overly conservative. And finally, if they did this test in Windows, Dell compresses the data on the 8gb SSD, good old Stacker strikes again.. That definitely kills performance.
