im sorry yeah that ac3 trick really didnt make much of a difference. the real difference was disabling aero for me. now i get no dropped frames at all! just to recap for the windows 7/vista users: coreavc, mpc, and disable aero and you're golden! too bad the mini doesnt have hdmi out!

Hey,

Running the Mini 9 in my sig I get dropped frames and out of sync audio from the start (720p MKV files). Running CCCP and Mplayer Classic on an nLited XP SP3.

One strange thing I noticed was that processor usage was always only a max of 50% on the second "core". As if only 25% of processing power was being used! Very strange... this was the same if I set priority to "high" or "real-time".

under power options, i think you can change your currently used power settings and set your min/max processor usage..
i'm on a mac at work right now so i cant tell you exactly what to click on to get there..

IIRC, the mini's Gma 950 fsb is toned down to 133mhz to reduce energy consumption, that's the main reason of the low performance despite of the chipset capabilities on other platforms,

Does anyone know if the second Mini PCIe slot will only work with an aircard?

I doubt it will work...but let's wait until the experts chime in....but nice find! I would suggest opening up a new thread over in the hardware forumn and we might get more bites.

Well the Vista driver probably works with Windows 7, which is fine with me. I prefer Windows 7 over XP actually. I have heard some people say that the second PCIe port is only for aircards and it does not support other devices. Others say it should work the same. I do not have the slot so I can not test and find out whether this is possible.

Also there are some USB video encoders/decoders that may also help. I am not sure how they are presented to the system, and if they help with decoding in real time.

Try GMA booster. It can up the speed of the gma 950 to 400 mhz from 133 mhz, and I've heard that improves playback.
