Default Certain keys not working - 02-26-2009, 10:38 PM

I booted up my mini today and for some reason certain keys don't work. I haven't changed anything and it was working fine prior to today. Should I just replace the keyboard or is there an easier fix?

Maybe this help

Setting keyboard matrix
1. Turn off your computer
2. If your computer is connected to the ac adapter, disconnect the ac adapter from the computer
3. Press and hold the following key combination for the desired keyboard matrix :
_ United States : <Fn><S>
_ United Kingdom : <Fn><K>
_ Japan : <Fn><J>
_ Korea : <Fn><E>
4. Connect the ac adapter to the computer then plug it into a wall outlet or surge protector
5. Release the key combination

I had some of the lower row of keys go out on mine and it turned out to be the ribbon cable had developed a crack in one of the traces. If you look, the cable is actually folded pretty tight and from all my modding, I'm sure I flexed it one too many times. I was lucky and found that when I pressed it against the base of the keyboard it worked, so I got out the superglue and actually glued the cable to the metal bracket to keep it from flexing. Works fine (so far).

So, try this, unscrew the keyboard and lift it up but leave it plugged in. Try flexing the cable while pressing keys and see what happens. If the ribbon is bad, best to just order a new keyboard.

FWIW, this is intended to be performed after changing the motherboard, so that the new mobo will know what layout the keyboard is. It can't be bad, though. Unless you screw it up.
