Aaargh! This is the one thing that really p***es me off about my Mini 9.
I have the web-cam but don't really use it. If that is the reason the screen does not fold back far enough then I am prepared to ditch the cam.
If you have a Mini 9 without a web-cam then can you fold the screen back far enough while it is on a table so that the screen does not look washed out because you are looking at it the wrong viewing angle?

How about some numbers? Get out the protractors, people!
I have one of the early Mini 9s, with webcam, and my screen goes back to 130 degrees. The only time I wish it went back more is if it's on a counter or table and I am standing.

The limit on the lid angle is NOT due to cables. It's a hard stop, apparently from the hinge. I don't see any interference from the visible plastic bits. I'd have to take the unit apart again to investigate, but I think it's the design of the metal hinge that would be the limit.
If it were cables, you'd be putting strain on the cables regularly and the display would stop working. (I know, as I screwed up once when reassembling and caused the video cable to get pinched which made the display flake out.)

Yes, I think you're right. If the screen was being held forward just by wires, there would be a ton of broken screens arround!
Also, I don't think there would be enough pressure in the wires to stop the user pushing the screen back.

Out of my 3 Mini 9's, which are all refurbs, there is only one that doesn't go back as far as the other two. They all have webcams as well.
Not much I can do about it now so no worries.

I think it's important the screen fold back as far as possible, so you can find the optimal screen angle for viewing. This is important for a cheap tiny screen like on the Mini 9, which has very narrow optimum viewing position. Color shifts happens easily when the viewing angle is tilted up or down slightly.
I remember when I got the EeePC when it just came, you could fold the screen back, but the unit would loss balance and topple backwards. So I returned it.
Here is another data point for Mini 9 screen angle:
My Mini 9 is April 09 built. I just measured the max angle, it's 133 degree. My unit doesn't have the webcam.

here's mine. it's tilted back as far as possible. not sure what the angle is.
i never bothered to check but i must say, the screen does look better when it's all the way back lol.
