Yeah, how much RAM do you have? I am with you on preferring the look and feel of Vista. But unlike you, I've had great luck with Vista on my Mini.
I'm not sure how you vLited, but I posted details in the thread below about what worked for you. Boot-up is annoyingly slow, but that only happens once a day--I put it to sleep the rest of the time, and it is incredibly fast to sleep and to wake up.
Here is what I did: vista-rocks?-here?s-my-setup--t787.html
Keep us posted.

I vLited my Vista Home Premium to a 32 GB Runcore, and have no issues with it running slow. In fact, it is a bit faster than my Vista desktop system. Also, booting up is incredibly fast...less than 10 seconds to login screen, then another 10-15 seconds to desktop. My original vLite install had issues, possibly due to something I stripped out or drivers...but I re-did the vLite and left most things in (except language packs and a handful of other components), and then manually installed drivers. Oh, and I have 2 GB RAM installed. I would recommend checking out Jeff's link...although it looks like it's broken. Here's the topic link. LINK
