Received my Mini 9 on Friday, it shipped in only 3 days. I ordered a Refirb with 8GB SSD
, 1 GB RAM, Linux. The machine looks smaller in person than on the computer. The keyboard is small and crowded, but I think the letter keys are large enough to type at a decent speed, as long as you don't need punctuation. I'm sure I will get used to the smaller keys and odd locations.
No everything was perfect. I couldn't get the Mini to recognize my wireless network. I pressed the Fn + 2 key to toggle the WIFI on and off, but there was no indication either way. Is there supposed to be any indication? The wireless started working at some point, but I still don't know what fixed the issue. Regardless, the WIFI connects fast in just a few seconds automatically.
My "Windows" key does not toggle the firefox full screen function as it is supposed to. Any ideas how to get that working?
I have only added on program, Skype. That experience was similar to the WIFI issue. I followed different instructions from this and other sites, including a couple terminal commands. I also just downloaded the file from Skype and double clicked on it. I don't know which method worked in the end, but I do have skype running on the Mini.
I was a complete Linux virgin, and have not had too many issues. The Skype install would have been very tough without support from this and other boards though. As long as you stick to the basics, using this is not hard. I haven't told my wife that the Mini is a Linux computer, and she has not complained about the interface once.
In summary, I'm very happy, but still have a couple issues I'd like to clear up.
