Default Recommended Ubuntu gps/map software ? - 01-31-2009, 05:12 PM

Just bought a mini 9, one of the desired functions is use for GPS when I travel . There seem to be several Linux based map programs. Any experiences or recommendations?

I intend to use my current Holux GPS that plugs into a USB port .

I don't have any experience with anything linux based, but I use Google Earth with GooPS. There is also an app called Earth Bridge. I think these are both Windows only, but there should be something similar for Linux. It allows the GPS to interface with Google Earth (free). If you're needing navigation, this will NOT do it. Also, if you need to go without Internet access, just zoom in where you will be going and let GE fill up the cache first.
