Default Windows 10 on Mini 9? - 08-09-2015, 01:54 PM

I have a mini9 with 2GB of RAM and was was wondering if anyone had tried Windows 10 on it yet? Windows 7 seems to run fine on mine, LinuxMint 17(Mate is better the Cinnamon) also runs great, but I would like to put Windows 10 on if people think the retail version will run close to the same as Win7. Someone had started a thread on this last year, but obviously that was with old beta versions

I haven't been here in at least a couple of years but I have been wondering the same thing this past week, been thinking if I should pull out my Vostro A90 to give it a go (if my battery is OK) - had tricked it out with a 32gb SSD and 2 gigs of RAM. Had updated my much more recent Asus x205ta fairly easily - has same capacity and RAM and it's been working great so that's what has me wondering...

Running it now - just finished installation, supports 1024x600 screens so installed fine - this would have stopped widows 8 in it's tracks. So far it seems OK - I have one unit still running OSX 10.6 - this seems to run the best when compared to Win 7 - both have 2gig ram and runcore 64gig SSD's which are no longer available.

It's a little early to really say it's super quick but it's working so that's a start.

The Mini 9 is only 800x600, but Win8 and 8.1 work on it just fine, as long as you don't want to use "Windows Store" apps.

Hi Holmes - Normally I agree with you but..........................

mini 9 screen resolution is 1024x600........................and win 8 by default won't install unless you do the work around for the screen resolution.

Yeah, 1024x600.... It's been a while. I should try Win10 on my Mini9.

Works great. I even got the xbox one streaming working with some success. I upgraded from Windows 8.1 but after the upgrade I used the Reset this PC to get rid of some junk. I only needed to install the Intel Chipset Drivers from the Dell website:
************************************************** **********
* Product: Intel(R) Chipset Device Software
* Release: Production Version
* Version: 8.7.0.1007
* Target Chipset#: Mobile Intel(R) 45 Express Chipset
* Date: February 22 2008
************************************************** **********

I'm also using a RunCore 32gb SSD and I put in an Intel Wifi/BT card.

Thanks guys. I installed Win10 pro and it did not pick up video driver right away(I did not allow updates while installing), but it did get the correct one in there after it ran updates and display is good. It does seem to use about 1GB of RAM on boot and 1GB free, which seems pretty similar to Win7. Just starting to work with it and it might be a little more sluggish, but it seems pretty close.

I do have 3 unknown drivers in there that Windows Updates cannot resolve, but I do not think it is wireless nic, sounds, display, etc. Might be the card reader or something like that. If anyone has any ideas on that, please let me know.

I downloaded the Vista drivers for the Application-Wireless xxx and the JMicron SD as well and the JMicron Vista would not work with Win10. I then searched for the latest ones and found them(they came off a drivers site indicating they were for the Lenovo and those did install perfectly. So Device Manager is 100% clean.

I upgraded my Mini 9 from 8.1 to 10 - worked fine and I didn't even need new drivers. Device Manager was clean "out of the box".
