As I found out the hard way, the Dell mini 9 doesn't have the ability to boot from the SD card. The problem is that I have the 4GB ssd
(not big enough for many distros) and a 32GB SD card laying around that can't be booted from, but has plenty of space. Also, I have no want to spend any money upgrading the ssd
and having a thumb drive sticking out the side would just be annoying. My solution ended up being very simple. When installing, just create a custom partition configuration. I created a partition for / (root) on the SD card and created a 500 MB partition for /boot and the rest as swap on the ssd
. Finally select the the ssd
when selecting which drive to install the bootloader. This worked great when installing Mint.
