Default easiest/foolproof OS X on mini/vostro 9? - 07-14-2012, 02:04 AM

Searching only gets me confused that the results are so old and mixed up that I would be following outdated procedures.

I have two Dells; a mini 9 and a vostro 9 that I want to put OSX on. Now that some time has passed and I would hope that a 'best' method has been devised, can someone point me to idiot-proof step by step instructions for the best/easiest method? I always wanted to get OS X running on these. My vostro has less than an hour of runtime, I'd say. One originally came with windows and the other with ubuntu. I managed to format/erase the drives. Now I am ready to install OSX. Whichever is the easiest/foolproof way.

Or, does anyone provide a service to ship the SSD to them, and get it (OS X) installed? That would be preferred.

Thanks!

Thanks. I'll give that one a shot!
I still wonder by anyone that might know, if anyone will install/config an SSD as a service? That is, if I were to ship them SSD(s), would anyone install/configure it?
Again, later today perhaps I will have time to do the above. Thanks.

Worked for me. Thanks so much again!
Now, must I never upgrade via the software update automatic thingy?

You should not use the automatic upgrade. I suggest you follow our OS X sections and look for information on which updates you can install and whether you need to do anything special. You can get up to 10.6.7 without too much difficulty, but not after that.

It would not be legal for someone to perform that service you describe.

Ok. Just noticed the internal mic if not functioning. I was hoping to use Skype on this. Any possibility? Again, I fear searching the forum and plucking an old/antiquated solution out of the stack. THANKS in advance!

I believe there are threads on this in the Mac OS section of the forum. Please move the discussion there.
