Default Should i change system - 01-21-2012, 05:41 PM

It seems to take a long time booting up Windows XP
Should i reinstall XP or should i go Windows7 or go for Ubuntu ?
Will Ubuntu be faster loading & also loading web pages.
Can i try Ubuntu on a USB Flash Drive before i uninstall XP
Please direct me how to do this.

Go here for Ubuntu Download | Ubuntu & yes it is a fast boot just over 1 minute to a wireless connection (that alone is about 25 seconds). Try it on your USB flash drive & see if you like it. If you use 10.04 like mine you will need to connect via ethernet to get the broadcom driver for your wireless card.

If you want to keep Win XP, then a clean install will speed it up nicely (it won't be as fast as Ubuntu or Win 7).

Please don't double-post. You also asked this in the General section.

Interesting, I thought that 11.10 had the broadcom driver included unlike my version 10.04. However, I see from your other post that you found how to get the driver & got wifi working. Good for you!

I'll watch your other post to see how you get along & you can just let this post age out.

Curious
Why would a clean install of XP speed it up ?

Also can i put the XP Disk on a flash drive to reinstall it ?

A clean install of any OS will speed things up - less background stuff running.

Yes, you can create a bootable flash drive with the XP install, though you need to do it right. Simply copying the files won't do it.
