Re: Install XP from USB (SD Card reader) - 01-20-2009, 07:35 AM
It's a Transcend SD card reader that came with my card. Same SD brand as well.
Example: http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-Class-M ... 876&sr=8-2
I just tried it on my Sony USB drive. I used to install opensuse and ubuntu with this device but it still says the same thing. I formatted FAT32, copied all the files from the XP CD, reboot, and it says Operating System not found.
The boot order is USB then hard drive.

Copying the files from the XP CD doesn't make the drive bootable.
This link is the one I used, it's idiot proof (it worked for me!)

I'm having that exact same problem, only I successfully installed Vista on my mini 9, and am now trying to install the V-lite version. I get the same error message (almost):
for realtek RTL8101E/8102E PCI-E Ethernet Controller v1.08 (080408)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: exiting PXE ROM.
I can't figure out how to solve this! I kept thinking it was how I stripped vista, so the files I copied onto my USB drive didn't turn out properly -- i followed this guide, several, several times, http://rickatnight11.com/?p=71#post -- or maybe my flash drive was just messed up. I checked bios, my ssd is properly recognized, in fact, the default settings are still in place.
The strange thing is, I tried installing Ubuntu 8.10 using the same method -- a flash drive -- and it WORKED. So now I'm thinking it can't be my USB drive, right? So now I successfully installed ubuntu 8.10 onto my dell mini via USB, but I can't seem to reinstall Vista. I keep getting the same error message over and over again.
Any help at all would be really appreciated, I'm not exactly the most technically savvy girl =\
