Just got a mini 9. Something i've been wanting for a very long time
When i purchased it, it already had a couple key upgrades. Runcore 32gb, 2gb RAM and an extended battery. It was already 1.3mp webcam and Bluetooth. 32bit Win 7.
And now start the upgrades.
I've already wired it for WWAN antennas. I've got the Mini PCI slot shipping, as well as the SIM card slot. (If anyone has any particular tips, or pin guides i'd appreciate em). I intend to place a Qualcomm Gobi 2000 card there, the Dell 5620 card which I've flashed with T-Mobile Firmware. It has built in GPS too, which is pretty nifty.
But the first upgrade i'm trying to get working is changing out the crappy Intel 3945 ABG card for a modern Intel 6250 ABGN + WiMax card. The hardware was easy, what i'm having trouble with seems to be software because for the life of me I cannot get it to work. I've got the Intel WiFi and WiMax software installed, but they do not read the card itself. The card shows up in the Device Manager as normal except that the main entry for the wifi portion has a /!\, that it cannot start. The drivers i'm using are the latest, according to Intel and driveragent. But i still can't get the wifi to work at all.
If anyone has ANY advice or suggestions i'd appreciate em. If anyone wants to poke around with a remote assistance, lemme know maybe we can set that up.
If i can by miracle get the soldering perfect on the SIM and the Mini-PCI, in addition to getting the 6250 to work in the mini 9, i should be covered on 3G, Wifi-N, and WiMax with it. I think that would leave me rather content as far as universal adaptability goes.
EDIT: I did attempt taping pin 20 on the 6250. I can't find my electrical tape and instead used thick clear tape. This didn't change anything at all. Intel diag still couldn't find the card.
