Question .NET Framework Necessary? - 02-25-2011, 03:37 PM

Is .Net Framework really necessary on my tiny Mini 9? It takes up an awful lot of room.
I do watch movies, surf, listen to music and email but don't game or shop on it.
Or do I have to keep adding the updates to it that say they are for security risks? It's going to fill up the mini.
Or can I delete some?
The ones installed so far on it are....
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
2.0 Service Pack 2
3.0 Service Pack 2
3.5 SP 1

.net frame is needed for some applications..not sure what you have...surprised you dont have 4.0 yet...I am not sure if they are inclusive or not, I do know that you need 1 before you can load the other though, you could try deleting all that you have and just load 4.0 and see what happens..... cases like this I am sure glad I have 750gigs to play with...

PS. do a backup 1st

As Rich said, .NET Framework is required for some applications. Typically you would not have those installed unless some application needed them.

Okay, I guess I'll be forced to install the 3 updates I had put on hold
I don't think I have nerve enough to delete any of them, to experiment, at this time after a recent harrowing experience I had with her Maybe later.
I thank you for your help....jennifer

I have none installed on this SSD, on another I went to Dell to download drivers,in order to download them from Dell I had to install framework 2.0 once it was installed,I kept getting notified of updates they were framework 3.0 and 3.5.I notice no difference in either SSD.For me they occupy space and nothing more.Other than the download of drivers.

Many programs use .net framework and as time goes on more & more will require it, if you dont have the updates now.....you will (lol)

I probably dont use my mini as others do,I use it in forums, ordering parts for my repair business, lot of them are ebay.
Of course my knowledge is lacking in comparison to most here. But for what I know and use a computer its made a world of difference in my little buss.
Its saved me miles of driving also! but I'm gettin to be an olefart so what I have learned here amazes not only me but some others my age. Thanks everyone who has helped me!!
