Default Some things that might improve speed/response on mini - 10-14-2008, 05:22 PM

I haven't received my mini's yet, but here are some things I ran across that might be helpful. I haven't tested them yet, so use at your own risk. Each of these are registry editor files, just save them with a .reg extension and import them on your machine. copy everything that appears in the 'code' section. Some of these are just to disable little things here and there that might add up to regaining small amounts of performance or resources. Some may just be preference things... I'll update and add more as I find them. here's a few to start:

To disable the Indexing Service:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\cisvc]
"Start"=dword:00000004

To disable ballon tips

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"EnableBalloonTips"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"FolderContentsInfoTip"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\tips]
"Show"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"StartButtonBalloonTip"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"ShowInfoTip"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoSMBalloonTip"=dword:00000000

Not really performance related, but since we have small SSD's and they may get full, how to disable low disk space warning:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoLowDiskSpaceChecks"=dword:00000001
increase number of simultaneous internet connections to 10:
This will allow multiple downloads at one time. Default is 2, if you try to download more than two files from a site, it won't go. This will increase that to 10.

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=dword:00000010
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:00000010
