Using aircraft mode so battery will live longer! - 01-13-2009, 08:59 PM
hello, just got an idea :
it is not good to have battery at 100% charge level, specialy in hot place. it is much better to have it at 40% (like when you purcahse ne battery, there are always charged at 40%)
Look at this :Ref : http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm
(for example, at 25°c, battery loose 20% of its nominal capacity per year if always charged at 100%, only 4% if charged always at 40%)
So, if you are like me, ie using your mini at home, always pluged in an outleet, instead of having to remove and put in the battery each time you do not need it, why not using the aircraft mode to stop charge the battery, to leave it always at a 40% level ? you can enable wifi even in aircraft mode (when you know you have to go somewhere you can disable aircraft, so it charges to 100%...)
I am testing this right now ...

The fact that the battery doesn't get charged while in Airplane mode is a known bug, which has been solved with the latest set of updates:
So your trick won't work (unless you physically remove the battery).

Okay... what and what and wha...?
The article lost me once they started showing graphs and all the tech talks...
I am a tech novice... so it's hard for me to understand if it's not in layman's terms...
So... from what I can tell... they are saying that by year 2~3, my battery guage won't be accurate?
and if I want to prolong the lifespan of my batter, I should leave it charged at 40%?
Does that mean if I have an occasion where I know I need my laptop to perform for hours, I have to schedule it to be charged 100% for that occasion only? Man... that is way too high maintenance...
