Question Chrome OS (Hexxeh Vanilla) Wifi? - 10-06-2010, 02:01 AM

So I've got the latest Vanilla build of Chrome OS from Hexxeh

(ChromiumOS Vanilla Nightly Builds)

It works great, but is kind of useless without WiFi, does anyone have any experience getting WiFi working on this?

Thanks for any help

I dunno. Try searching for "chrome os broadcom wifi" or similar (Broadcom makes the OEM WiFi card for most or all Mini 9 netbooks).

Mini 9 | Intel 5100 Wifi | Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook
Mini 1012 | SSD | Intel 6200 Wifi | Ubuntu 11.10 64bit

I absolutely searched before posting, I wouldn't want to waste anyone's time.

Everything points to an old proprietary build of chrome os specifically for the dell mini.

That's not what I'm looking for, I'm trying to get the latest build to work with the broadcom WiFi.

If any one could point me in the right direction (instead of asking me to search), I would really appreciate it.

We don't discuss Chrome OS much in this forum - there's our sister site, GoChromeOS Blog where I see in the forum someone also asking about Wireless on the Mini 9 with no resolution.

This is a common problem with Ubuntu and the mini-9. You need to get to a command line or the software manager.

Check out for a guide that works with Ubuntu.

I replaced my Dell Mini 9 wifi card with one which has the Atheros chipset. Atheros is supported by Chome OS and better supported by other Linux distros.

Also, Dell released an updated build of Chrome OS for the Dell Mini's on December 7th, sadly no 'wl' WiFi support. Grab it here:

Index of /files/cto

Mini 9 | Obsidian Black | BIOS A06 | 2GB Kingston HyperX CL3 | 64GB SuperTalent DW Half mini PCIe2 80/40 | Bluetooth | Chrome OS/Peppermint Ice/JoliCloud

Default Chrome OS - 05-16-2011, 03:05 PM

The web page linked by holmes4 (Chrome OS Blog) looks like it's been taken over by a spam service. There is no longer forums or a blog, just a bunch of crappy links to ipad cases and such stuff.

It looks like flow development has stopped, Lime was never released publicly and has been abandoned. Vanilla is available, but my understanding is the wifi card is not supported, not sure if there are other issues as well with the Dell 9.

if the only thing incompatible is the wifi card, that can be replaced with something chrome has native support for.

EDIT: I see someone has already done this. My question is what card do you suggest, I'm confused over which ones i can use for a quick replacement on the Dell 9. Have any specific model numbers I can use to look up in amazon or google?

Good starting point to do-it-yourself is b43 - Linux Wireless
I tried 3 drivers for my BCM4312: broadcom-sta - works, b43 - works, b43legacy - does not.
There is a conflict between broadcom-sta and b43 they should never be loaded together.
Do not forget to configure wpa_supplicant to connect to protected wifi network.

And one more thing. The latest Chromium build for mini 9 - 10v from Dell Linux community Index of /files/cto has all the drivers and configuration script. I tried it yesterday. Wifi works fine. No sound thou.

Mini 10v, BIOS A06, OS X 10.6.6, Linux-Mint, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB HDD

Default Working fine for me... - 05-22-2011, 12:17 AM

I downloaded the non-nightly build and I have everything working.

Sound and wifi work fine!

I have a Mini 9 with 2gb RAM and a 16gb SDD.

Edit: Looks like I have Flow, not Vanilla. But, everything is working...
