Cool Is this memory card a good deal? - 09-13-2010, 01:41 AM

Is this memory stick a good deal? Im getting the skin whether i buy the memory or not. I just wanted to know if it was a good deal. And if the memory upgrade was worth it on the mini 9. Thanks.

So far as the skin... I don't like them. The constant in/out of my sleeve ruined 2 skins so far. YMMV

For the memory --
That is a great price. I noticed Windows XP pick up the pace a bit (not huge increase, but noticeable) when I installed my stick.

Anything under $40 is a great price nowadays for a 2GB DDR2 SODIMM.

I have a skin on my 9 and no issues at all from the sleeve. I don't know how rugged the one you've found is.

ok thanks. I am definitely going to get the skin. Still considering the memory. I dont know if ill get the use out of it. I am also considering installing tiny xp or tiny 7 for the minor perf. boost they give. I read a topic on this here but many of you seemed to be against it. Most seemed to like nlite. Im not sure what I will do at this point, but i appreciate all the help. This forum is awesome.

The purpose of stripping down Windows is to enable installation on smaller disks. It isn't for any kind of performance boost. I have seen many people with issues from these stripped versions because they remove a required service. It's not worth the hassle in my opinion.

It should give a small perf boost seeing as it cuts the memory down to somewhere around 40mbs. If im wrong then like you said it will give me a little more disc space. On my install with the dell disc i updated and add antivirus. And i was up to like 6gbs. Thats most of my hd. Maybe ill just use nlite if you think thats better.

I don't recommend nlite either. For Windows 7, it will use more RAM for its cache, but the cached memory is still available to applications - unused RAM is just wasted.

I know that some people have success with Nlite and similar, but I also see a lot of problems.

Lastly, be sure that you have a legal and valid license for whichever OS you install.

yah ill stick with xp because i have a legit liscencse. I just wish it didnt take up so much hd space... I like to keep 30% free. Maybe if i get time ill try tinyxp or nlite. If its to much of hassle ill stick with my full hdd xp.
