Default INstalling drivers? - 09-01-2010, 04:00 AM

I did a fresh install of xp using an external disc drive. My mini 9 came with an xp dell cd and a dell driver cd. I dont know how to install the dell driver cd. I try to run it but it doesnt do anything.... Any suggestions? I am using the stock driver disc.

The Mini 9 usually comes with a "restore" CD that has the drivers preinstalled. Some updated drivers are on Dell's web site. Are all the devices working for you? If you open Device Manager, do any devices show with a yellow warning symbol?

Yes it shows im missing some drivers. I dont know how to get the driver disc to work. I suppose i could search around the internet and pick all of them up but id rather just find how to use the disc. Do i have to boot from it? or can i just run it? THanks.

You can find the drivers at Dell's support site. Switching to Linux just because of this is likely to give you still more grief.

Which devices show as problems in Device Manager? You probably need the Battery Meter application, at least.

You don't need all five. Some of these are for Bluetooth or the Ethernet connection.

I guess I would start with the two Atheros downloads - the driver first. If it complains, then try the Broadcom Arcadyne download instead. I don't know what the "Atheros - Application" is - it may be software to control the wireless configuration.

Thanks so much for your help. I feel like pretty stupid.... I never tried running the update manager. It fixed everything
