Default A90 'Y' key issue - 06-05-2010, 04:07 PM

I got an A90 as a refurb.. I installed XP for now until I get my bigger SSD and can install Win7 although I will use XP for somethings

Anyway, when I press the Y key it will double press or even type several Y's on the scren and the same if I press a key around it.

I will call Dell Support next week since I just got it, but I hope they will just send a new keyboard for me to swap.

Also I heard of a better layout keyboard, how tough it is to swap, maybe I will do that instead..

It's easy to swap the keyboard, as long as you are gentle and careful with the ribbon cable lock.

For info on the "better layout" keyboard, see Replacement Keyboard more normal (US-Intl)

maybe try one of those cans of air (with a straw) and blow out underneath by the 'y' key ...it might help..if not like Steve said, just replace the keyboard, its pretty easy and pretty cheap

PS. I'd get the can of air anyway....it will keep whatever keyboard you have clean underneath, I have a mini one from Staples that uses a CO2 cartridge and its tiny enough to carry in my case...when it dies just replace the CO2 cartridge and your back in business...they are like $10 and replacement cartridges (4 pack) are like $12, but they last a while

I would let Dell fix this before spending any money on it. It should have arrived to you working, not with a stickyyyyyy.

I had one do it with the L key. I very simply bought and replaced it.

It's very simple.

Good luck with that. I've been A+ since they decided to make it a cert... and dell will not ship a part to my home for me to install myself. However, they will at work in a official capacity.

It's not logical.

Well, I lucked out.. I have the Vostro A90.. so being a small business machine, they are shipping me a computer to my Parent's Store (where the laptop was sent to anyway)

I will have a keyboard in the next couple of days

Well that is good news. I expected Dell to want you to ship it back to them.
