Default Mini 9 battery life declining - 06-01-2010, 03:06 AM

So ive had my mini 9 over a year now. My original hard drive died, was replaced over a month ago with a new one and installed the most recent version of ubuntu netbook remix. I only have wifi on, lowest screen brightness and I am lucky to just get around 2 hours. Is this normal for a 3 cell, 24.4 wh battery? Prior to the new hard drive and using ubuntu 8.04 i got easily 2.5 + hours. Also right now sometimes the battery gets hot, even when its charged enough, the red light starts flashing for a few seconds suddenly. Here's a youtube video that someone else had the same issue. So are these symptoms to a failing battery or something else? Thanks

well getting about 2 hrs or so out of a 3 cell is about normal...did you buy it new or used...I mean after over a year or so you are gonna see some decline....those batteries usual last about 1 1/2 to 2yrs depending on how many charge/discharge cycles they go through...and I also think that the battery getting hot is shouldnt get so hot where it burns your hand, but if you have it on your lap...yes its gonna heat up...try a cooling pad underneath not only will it be more comfortable but I personally think it might extend the battery a little longer..just my 0.02....

My runs down to under 2hr after a year also, so it's probably pretty normal, which is why I have a 10hr one from mydigitaldiscount on the way. Let's see how it turns out.

The more you use the battery the faster it dies - if you do constant and regular full discharges then it will just die faster.

And if you leave the laptop in a stored full battery state then you will lose 20% capacity per year - they are best stored at 40 - 60% charge then they will lose noticeably less, they also hate heat.

So over all their is nothing wrong with your battery it's just wearing out.
