Question Lucid Lynx and computer janitor - 05-08-2010, 09:27 PM

After installing Lucid Lynx and running computer janitor, it suggests removing linux-image-2.6.31-21-generic. I just want to verify that this is really not needed any more. Is this analagous to removing old windows files after an upgrade? Thanks.

The linux-image packages are the core system packages on Ubuntu. So, the current version is very important, but old versions can safely be removed.

If you're fully updated, I think you're using this version: linux-image-2.6.32-21-generic. So, linux-image-2.6.31-21-generic should be safe to remove.

To be certain, run "uname -r" in a terminal to find out what kernel (system core) version you're currently running. If it differs from the version tagged for removal by computer janitor, then you should be good to go.
