Hi- I really hate to go off topic, but you guys seem to be the right crowd for the XP answer. I recently bought a SECOND Mini 9 with XP Home and an 8GB SSD
. I tried to reinstall XP Pro sp2 over the top and it blue-screened and XP Home was unrecoverable. Tried Gpart and recreated the partition as a whole 8gb (7.12 really), formatted as NTFS (then FAT32 when NTFS also blue-screened). After eating significant amounts of crow from my wife, I'm asking for a one-stop answer for brining her new toy up with XP Pro from my OEM disk (her old laptop's - long dead).
Tried so far ->
PARTITIONING: Gparted, DOS 6.22 fdisk/format, reimaging with PING
OS's: XP Pro sp2 & sp1, XP HOME, Win 98 (yes, I still have the original retail CD)
Also tried slipstreaming and nLiting XP Pro to small (and full) loads with SP3.
Also tried PING (Partimage Is Not Ghost) imaging from my wife's 16gb Mini. [I had the SAME problem with her 8gb but when I called Dell for an RMA, they sent me a 16GB for no additional charge - it loaded XP Pro slick as a whistle].
All (including my wife's initial 8gb SSD
) blue screen prior to the Recovery Console option. I wonder if Dell bios has a bug? PING suggested that during resto (which ultimately failed).
Any help appreciated - but I'd really like a link to someone who's already licked this issue.
