Here is how I did the process. It worked for me after a little playing around, so here is how I did it.
First I slipstreamed sp3 into my XP install. I followed the steps at this website for that as well as customizing XP:
http://lifehacker.com/386526/slipstream ... llation-cd
As far as installing by USB drive, I used this website:
http://www.eeeguides.com/2007/11/instal ... thumb.html
I stopped when that website started talking about the eePC. What I found was when I turned on the MINI9, I pressed "0" for the Boot Menu. I chose USB Drive. You will get 2 options. One for "GUI" and one for "TEXT". Click the "TEXT" option. It will go through the partitioning screens and once done it will want to restart. Here is the fun part. Again, press "0" for Boot Menu. Choose USB Drive. This time choose "GUI" options. It will go through and install the rest of XP. DO NOT UNPLUG THE USB DRIVE YET!!!! Now, when it reboots again, choose "0" for Boot Menu then "GUI" option again. XP will boot up. Once fully booted, you can then unplug the USB drive. Restart and you are good to go. If you have any issues (I ran into a couple with some of my installs 50/50%) let me know. Many of them are very easy to fix.
Hope this helps!

It may not be obvious but there is a forum here dedicated to discussion about Ubuntu on the Mini 9. You may have better exposure of your posts about Ubuntu there.
From the main list of forums you need to scroll down a bit.
Anyone owning a Mini 9 with Ubuntu should also take a good look at this wiki page:
It lists common issues for the Mini 9 with Ubuntu, either pre-installed from factory or installed from an Ubuntu vanilla 8.04.1 CD.
It also has direct links to the documentation that came with the computer in electronic form, as well as links to other community sites, forums and mailing lists.
If you have a specific question about the Mini 9, it is also possible to ask it here:
I can't answer all questions here in the forum, but I keep a close eye on questions asked via Launchpad.
