Default Xp install on a ubuntu mini 9 - 12-25-2008, 08:19 PM

I have very limited knowledge with ubuntu and would like to switch to xp, from doing a quick search i found xp sp3 lite, if i make this bootable from a usb flash drive will that work? What about the drivers for the mini where can i find those and are there any other helpful tips/ tricks that will help this go more smoothly? Thanks!

edit: i also have only the 4gb hard disk with a 8gb sdhc card, will that be enough space?

The 4GB would mean you using nLite to trim an XP SP3 install to fit. It will work but 4GB is pushing it a bit for SP3 and all updates.

I've got an NLited XP Pro (with SP3 and updates) install with a bunch of software (including Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator) and only 2.9 gigs of the SSD has been used.

I had to disable hibernation and the pagefile to do that . If you don't have much ram, that could potentially cause some problems, but I've had no problems with 2gb of ram (a $20 upgrade). I also streamlined the slim drivers into my windows installation (which I did from a thumb drive).

You could even install some of your applications on the SD card (although they'll probably run a little slower) and use some portable apps.

It'll be tight, but you can definitely do it.
