Default Do I need the SDHC driver? - 01-12-2010, 04:33 AM

Hi,

I'm a new owner of a Vostro A90 .....8GB SSD, 2GB RAM (I upgraded the RAM to Crucial 2GB). I also ordered a Sandisk 16GB SDHC Class 4 Card (believe the Class 6 might be overkill for my minimum use). I was sent the link to get the driver JMicron (SDHC) driver

»ftp.us.dell.com/chipset/R200081.EXE</I>

I haven't received my SDHC card yet, but do I need this driver for the SDHC to work, or for something else?

Thank you!

Does the SDHC slot read other memory cards...maybe of smaller size?

If you are running Windows..it doesnt hurt to have drivers!

I haven't tried anything in the slot yet as I am waiting on my SDHC card .... I am running Windows XP .......just not sure I need the driver.

Someone mentioned it was to make the Mini9/A90 see the SDHC as a hard drive , like D: and not a removable drive. I figured you guys would know......what the driver is for.

Look in your device manager, do you have any highlighted items?

If your using an out-of-the-box setup you should be ok, otherwise you'll need to install.

Just plug the SDHC card in and see if the machine detects it. If not, use the driver.

My 10v needed no special driver, but it is running OS X. My usb card readers need no special drivers, Windows or Mac.

Windows will read SD/SDHC cards without an additional driver. It does need a driver for MemoryStick and possibly MMC cards.
