Hi folks,

i mainly bought the mini for internet browsing and msn chat but pidgin refuses to connect to msn!!! i know the login details are correct as they work on my windows box.

Could be any number of things but I've used Pidgin and have found I like Digsby much better as a suggestion to a workaround.

This problem is most likely to be due to the port setting (under "advanced" for the MSN Account Name) and/or router firewall port settings. For example, when I am connected to O2 ISP the default router settings let MSN connect through but when I use BT ISP through a Netgear router then settings have to be changed otherwise the same account would not connect at all. The port is question is port 1863. Finally I have Pidgin working with port 1863 with both O2 Wireless box and Netgear DG834PN router using "http" protocol (under Unbuntu V8.04 's Pidget go the "manage account" , then click on "advanced" and then select "http method".

Interesting Pidgin is all I use. You may have a setting wrong either in the port setting or other. Pidgin is great for netbooks as it is very light on resources.
