Default HELP... Can't boot from external drive - 12-13-2008, 09:53 PM

Good afternoon.

I'm trying to connect my Xbox 360 to my mini and use it install/run some items. When I connect everything, then I turn on the Mini, select option 0 and then highlight CD/DVD, etc. then press enter it just boots Windows. Even if I don't have anything connected and got into option 0 and select the CD/DVD it boots to Windows and doesn't tell me nothing is attached. How do I get it to recognize/see the USB drive.

Thanks for the help.

What exactly do you expect it to do? Do you have a bootable OS on the Xbox that is in a standard PC format? Wouldn't you just want to connect it and view it as a drive in Windows?

Um, how do you use an XBox 360 as an external drive?

I think OP meant the xbox 360 HD-DVD drive addon which has a USB interface. I've successfully connected it on my desktop pc but I haven't got my mini yet to try this so I'm curious to know as well.

Hopefully you guys got this one figured out already, but I just got my mini so I thought I would chime in.

The xbox external hd dvd drive worked fine for me by selecting the CD-DVD option from boot at the POST screen. It didn't work the first time, so I did a couple of things that may or may not have helped, but couldn't hurt to try.

I upgraded my BIOS to the A3 - details in this thread

I also made sure that I plugged the usb cable into the port on the left of the mini closest to the power cable. I'm not sure if this affected anything, but I based this off of the video someone on the forum posted about installing osX on the mini.

Hope this helps.

I also found that I could only get an external drive to boot from the ports on left side of the unit.
