Got my 8g, XP mini and played with it for 2 days. Upgraded to 2g ram.
So far I like it, good size, but it seems slow, especially after updating all the Microsoft updates, IE7, etc. The updates alone ate up almost 1G of SSD
Here are some issues that don't seem normal:
1. Service Tag and Express Service Code on bottom of netbook don't match the ST/ESC that appears in the Start:Programs
ellAccessories:ExpressServiceCode app. The Dell Support Center software does match. Is Dell Support Center app needed? Can this be safely uninstalled?
2. The resolution and desktop icons defaults are buggy. I tried the "switching res solution" on this site, but the icons still appear about 3/4 to the right in 1024x600 mode. Cannot get the icons to stay 100% to the right. Still researching this.
3. After doing the updates, the startup procedure/apps load quickly up until it tries to load the networking icons (both wireless and ethernet) in the tray. At that point their is delay of about 20 seconds and the whole computer slows down. Cannot open menus or apps during this time. About 10 seconds after the networking icons load the computer responds normally again. Should I have NOT updated with Microsoft Update (included a bunch of Office garbage) and stuck with just Windows Update? Other then the security updates, can I ignore the Netframework service packs?
4. I find access to my 8GB HCSD card to be slow and delayed. Are there settings that can boost the SD performance?
5. I noticed that the SSD
drive properties have the "Compress drive to save disk space" checked. This seems odd and would make the SSD
drive slower. Has anyone played with this setting?
Feedback is appreciated. any help?
