From what I've read, the base 4GB STEC SSD
is one of the slowest Mini 9 SSDs. The larger STECs are faster, and the SuperTalent Gen2 and RunCores are the fastest.
I've been happy with the 4GB STEC's performance, but I've also wiped and re-installed completely several times on my Mini 9 *, and played with many software tweaks.
* If I recall correctly, I've used the preinstalled Ubuntu 8.04, then 8.10, then 9.04, then Moblin 2, then 9.10, and now Debian... and there might have been another OS in there somewhere
