Go into the BIOS (press 2 at the Dell logo when the computer is starting up). On the first BIOS page that appears, look for the part that says "Fixed HDD". Tell me what it says next to that. It should say something like "STEC PATA 16gb". If it says "None", then your hard drive has failed, or your motherboard has failed. You will need to call Dell tech support and tell them your hard drive is not detected in the BIOS.

Hi!!I see that the topic is a little bit old but i would appreciate if you could help me.
I face the same problem.i try to install ubuntu or seven at my dell mini 9 but i have problems with the ssd. When i am trying to install seven, when it's time to select the hard drive it shows me that i have no space and it does not give me the option to format it.Also the same problem while installing ubuntu.
When i enter bios i can see the hdd but at hdd size it shows :0 mb.Is my ssd the problem???

its really a shame that the Mini 9 dosen't support an HDD, I have read so many stories about these SSD's failing.. I am glad I don't have one, but I feel sorry for those that have no choice in having to replace them..at least with the Mini 10's, the SSD's are just an option for those who may want one..with the Mini 9's there is really no choice...sorry to hear about yours.....but one thing for sure, now I know why there are so many for sale.........

Good Luck with yours..
