Default Has anyone put anything in the empty WWAN spot in their mini 9? - 09-25-2009, 05:52 AM

Has anybody permanently wired in a slim usb thumb drive or memory stick in the empty WWAN spot? Can it be done?

I figure it would be a great spot for some extra storage.

Even better!
SDHC mini PCIe adapter - Would it work?!

I'm planning to put a USB hub in my mini 10v with 2 sockets open into its empty WWAN area so that I can have 2x16gb micro USB sticks installed.

Dell Mini 10v | OSX 10.6.1 | 2GB RAM | 160GB HDD | 1510 Wifi | BIOS A04 | USB Legacy: OFF | USB Wake: ON | OEM BT 2.0: ON | NetbookInstaller 0.8.3 RC3

Status: A little slow to boot. Otherwise perfect!

I soldered a 16GB thumb drive inside my mini 9. Use pads 43 and 45 on the WWAN connector, a screw point for earth and a trace for the 5V. Means that even with an 8GB SSD I still have 40GB storage on board with my SD card and internal USB stick.

The soldering is reasonably easy if you're competent with a soldering iron and have one with a small tip.
