Re: Plz Help! Want to remove Ubuntu - 12-01-2008, 10:10 PM
OMG! THAT WORKED!! I have been working on this all weekend. Tell your wife to give you a Kiss on the cheek for me. I disabled the legacy thing and then set it to boot to CD. Wouldn't boot to the Cd, so I enabled the Legacy thing and then it worked ( I also plugged the external cd drive into a different usb port)
ANYWAY I got the XP Disk to start and it was loading then this message pops up.....
A problem has been detected and window has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the firest time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. IF this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers.
Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated.
Run CHKDSK /F to check hard drive corruption and then restart your computer.
STOP: 0x0000007B (0xf899663c.0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
I did restart and the same message appeared....NOT sure how to run the CHK DSK. AND I don't think it has any viruses as it is brand new and has not been online yet. LEts see I have had it since last weds!! BOO HOOO!
Do you suppose that UBUNTU is the culprit?
Do I need to do something different since it came installed with UBUNTU???

I cannot tell you how much I tried to get past the 0x0000007B error trying to install XP. I have a VLC and even tried to DL XP Pro SP3 and no luck.
I even went as far as setting up a WDS server and transfer an image from another PC and install from that.
In the end I think I may have been able to install XP from the CD if I had changed the BIOS to allow executables at boot. I can't remember the exact option but it's something like "Prevent executable setups"
Let me know if that works, I've spent 4 days trying to install XP using a wds server, which worked but it would be nice to know.

Ok I found that and disabled it - I had very high hopes that it would work - the disk was zipping along smoothly and then when it gets to starting windows (in the install btm line) THAT is when the little SOn of a Monkey POPPED UP AGAIN!
DID yours come with UBUNTU installed on it too???
