SSD, HD, how does one or the other affect the swap file exactly?

How much free space is on your SSD and what is your page file set to?
What applications are running when you get the error?
When do you get the error? Shortly after login or after running applications? When shutting the machine down?
What applications do you have installed?
What anti-virus do you have installed?
I have seen where Norton Internet Security has caused this before on XP.
Virtual Memory Error Message When You Shut Down the Computer
as mentioned before, look in task manager, click on the processes tab, and check the mem usage column for any application that is using a lot.
please report back here with what you find!

So, when the original poster claims to have received the message "virtual memory low", that means that he is running too close to exhausting the amount of memory available for programs. Removing the swap file can only lessen that amount, which would not alleviate the condition; in fact, it would likely make it worse. The correct answer is to analyze the user's program usage, and run fewer or less memory-intensive programs. It might even be an answer to increase the size of the swap file; it really all depends on what the user is trying to do.

My mini hasn't arrived yet but I have seen this message before. Did it also ask you if you wanted, or tell you how to up the amount of disk space used for virtual memory? Its been a long time since i've gotten that message. Last time i got it was on my old 4400 dim. after i exited a game. I added more RAM ,(not the case here) also i set my virtual memory for 1.5x my ram and went on my way But no doubt the mini might be a different story. To many programs at once maybe? No more space on drive to up the virtual memory? /shrugs; Like the wise poster above says use the manager see whats happening and regulate your usage or amount you have set for virtual memory around it. Thats what I would do.
