I'd be very surprised if one of the two above suggested isn't the problem.
However, if both MD5 and the verify/check option on the live boot do come back fine, I --almost-- guarantee you downloading the .iso from one of Ubuntu.com's download mirror sites -> performing MD5 -> following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/In...n/FromUSBStick "recommended default method" (you can use your stock installed Ubuntu or even a live boot if you wish) -> performing the integrity check from live boot will create a perfectly working live stick. (assuming no hardware issues, your drive is in working condition, formatted to a proper file system -- FAT32 or below, etc)
