In the mean time I had run another stec (back up) with xp on the vostro and all was fine.. But after having run the recovery disk on the suspected dead stec the vostro kept comming back with
No operating system present..
I then put the suspected dead stec with ubuntu in my mini 9 and it booted fine..
Basically stec 1 with unbuntu
stec 2 with a back up of xp
and my runcore 32 all run on my mini 9
But the vostro had mysteriously died .. The bios sees the drive but it just wont boot.. I something had gone on the firmware of the vostro mother board.. is the there anyway I can reboot the bios A04.. I think its a glich..
The vostro is for my daughters birthday and Del are giving me the telephone tag and dropped call run around

I'm having a hard time following what you did. Let's concentrate on one SSD at a time.
You said you ran "the recovery disk". What recovery disk? A Windows XP recovery disk? Did it find a Windows install to repair? How do you have the SSD connected for booting - USB or in the slot? Is "Legacy USB" enabled in the BIOS?
