You can still get Mini 9's on the Dell Outlet website.
If you are going to upgrade, get a 8 gig SSD. As far as ease of upgrading the SSD, 2 screws hold the rear cove, and 2 screws secure the SSD in place, as long as you are getting a standard size SSD and not a double wide, they will all fit the same, as they are the same form factor. Make sure the SSD you order will fit a mini 9, the ones for the EEC PC are different.
Everybody here swears by the RunCore's, but I bought a SuperTalent 32 gig from New Egg on sale for $80 with an additional $20 off, and for the price, I am quite happy.
The maximum memory these processors can handle is 2 gigs, brand is not really an issue. it is very simple to upgrade. Again, remove the same 2 screws holding the rear cover on, unclip the stock chip, insert the new one, replace the cover, and you are done. It is best to do the memory before installing OS X. You can do it later, but it is just easier to do it before installing.
I have had mine running OS X since April, and have had no real issues.
I would recommend you read and decide which method is best for you. Also, it is easier to upgrade your BIOS before installing OS X, so check which version your machine has when you get it, and upgrade if needed.
I would highly recommend you not follow the Gizmodo Guide, as it is pretty much obsolete now, and many people have improved the process and made it much easier and have gotten nearly every feature to work in OS X.
I posted to a thread a while back outlining the current issues with running OS X on the mini/Vostro.

This all sounds great. My Macbook Pro is from 2005 and I am used to those gestures so it is great I can still use them. Where is the best place to purchase SSDs and Memory? Also what is the type of each of those that the mini takes I want to make sure I don't get the wrong type.
Also how is battery life with these things

Also I've been researching the wwan upgrades, and although it seems that teh A90 does not come with a port for wwan is there a way of adding one? Also I would want decent performance so a ghetto hck where most of the signal was blocked would not be ideal. That said I would love to do the fingerprint add-on.

You'd be much better off to use a USB WWAN adapter from your wireless carrier. It IS possible to add one, but you have to get the parts and solder them in.
