Lightbulb Life after RC1? - 07-14-2009, 03:06 AM

So we all know that the Windows 7 RC1 will expire inside a year now, so what are all my Dell Mini 9/A90 early adapters going to do? Buy Windows 7? Buy Windows XP? Buy Mac OS X? Go back to Ubuntu in some variant, if so which one? Considering your like me and bought a Ubuntu set-up because Windows 7 RC1 was free, What O.S. will you spring to when you have to?

I wasn't sure what I would do long term when I first installed it (had been using a vLited Vista before W7). But once that $50 upgrade hit, I bought W7 for all four of my computers. (I have a legit XP or Vista license for each, so the upgrade works for me.)

That is an interesting question, though. I'll be curious to see what others have to say.

I bought W7 for my Mini. I can't imagine going back to XP. (Ubuntu is not of interest to me.)

Bought the upgrade. I'm dual-booting Ubuntu 9.04 now alongside Windows 7, but my grub bootloader is set to default to Win7.

Good question.

I'm using 7 RC1 now, but I'm keeping a very close eye on Moblin and it's variants. Hopefully it'll be stable enough for me before RC1 runs out.

Jolicloud is also an option, however, it isn't as fully fledged as Moblin at this stage and has relatively poor backing comparatively.

I'm not a great fan of running normal linux variants, and I've come to the conclusion that I don't need a 'windows desktop-like' OS on my Dell Mini.

Gonna get W7 through my university, and put it on my desktop and Mini (hoping to snag two licenses from the IT dept.).

Love the RC on my Mini, but I do have some problems with hibernate and sleep. But, it boots very fast, so I can't complain too much. Hopefully they'll have all the kinks worked out by the final release.

Sold my Mini 9 for a larger netbook, one that's easier on my wrists and hands.
Current Machine: 2010 MacBook Pro 13", 2.4 GHz C2D, 4GB RAM, Win7 Pro x64/OS X 10.6.3

And I play with my girlfriend's Mini 10v ^_^.

Interested in using MATLAB on the Mini 10v? Check out my benchmarks!

I'll just end up pirating Win 7 I guess.

I pre-ordered two Home Premiums, one for the Mini and one for the M140. Running the RC on both even though no areo on the M140. No doubt in my case it runs faster than XP SP3 did on the Mini or MCE on the M140.

I own 3 DELL's

XPS M140
XPS T450
