Cool Just ordered mine! (and I have a question :P) - 07-09-2009, 09:06 PM

Well, I just ordered my DM9 ! I've wanted it for a while, and finally found a nice deal on it. What I ordered was a White Dell Mini 9 with 8GB SSD, 1GB of RAM, and Windows XP. I also ordered (seperately) a new 32GB Super Talent SSD, and a 2GB Stick of RAM. I hope after I upgrade this thing and flip the GMABooster switch, I'll have a nice little netbook. It's obviously not a main computer, but for $342, not bad eh? I'll install OSX on it when it comes, but, coincidentally, is it possible to dual boot XP and OSX on these babies? Can I just partition it off and format the OSX partition to HFS+? Comments/suggestions for freeware, etc. are much appreciated!

Yes, dual boot is possible. Go read the Mac OS section of the forum for more details.

Congratulations, TchnclFl! I'm sure you'll love your Mini! Now forgive me for asking - but what is a GMABooster?

I may not have the correct numbers here but the concepts are correct. GMA booster is a program that 'overclocks' the underclocked GMA graphics chip. It is capable of 400 Mhz operation but to keep temps and power usage down it is reduced speed of 225 Mhz instead. The program sets whatever magic it takes to make it run at 400 Mhz. Programs that generate stats see perhaps a 10%. Real world results depend on who is reporting. Some claim improvement some say no difference.

The freeware program requires you to download a new version every week. There is an alternate for OSX that is also free and can be installed and forgotten. I use that.
