Default Mini 12 - SSD for PCI-E and Intel Wifi - 05-15-2009, 08:35 PM

Hello.

I just ordered a HP Mini 12 with an Atom Z530.
Now I have a few questions:

1. Is there an unused PCI-E slot in which I can put a Runcore 16GB 50mm SSD?
2. If the answer to 1 is yes: Is it possible to boot off of it? It only makes sense if I can install my Linux/Windows onto the Runcore SSD to profit from the faster speeds. I wanna use the standard PATA drive as my Storage drive (song, movies, pictures,...)
3. Is the standard WLAN module also a PCI-E card? I have an Intel-3945 PCI-E card laying around that I wanna use instead of the standard Dell one. I assume it has a Broadcom chip?

Well that's it already. I would be glad if someone could enlighten me a bit. I tried googling of course, but never really got anywhere.

Thanks a lot in advance!!

If you really have a HP, then you are in the wrong forum.

Ravic's Blog: Dell mini 12 dissected

If you don't have Wlan option, then the space is still there, but the mini PIC socket is NOT soldered in (see picture)

Follow this thread for idea how to put SSD or SD into that slot

SDHC mini PCIe adapter - Would it work?!

Sorry, I meant the Dell Mini 12 of course, not HP.

I just ordered the normal Mini 12. No extras besides the 1.6Ghz Z530.
So am I gonna be able to put a Runcore 50mm SSD in there and will I be able to boot from it?

I don't have personal experence in this. If you follow the thread listed above, it seems like someone manage to get it to boot off a SD/e-PCI card.
