Default Mini 12 freezes while browsing (Win XP Pro) - 05-15-2009, 01:27 PM

My mini 12 was purchased with Ubuntu but I installed Win XP Professional since I am not an ubuntu fan. I installed SP3 and all the necessary drivers from the Dell website ( I still show one Unknown Device under device manager but all the hardware seems to work fine).

My problem is that intermittently whenever I browse on IE or Firefox, the laptop just freezes on me. I cannot move the mouse and ctrl-alt-del, alt-f4 - none of them work. My laptop is set to go into hibernate on shutting the lid, but when this freeze happens even the hibernate does not work.

This may be a bad driver issue, but I have no clue how to troubleshoot. Any help sincerely appreciated!

I'm having the same experience with my new mini 12. It'll lock up whether or not it's online. No errors in the event logs.

Did you find a solution to your issue?

Hm. It was working fine for a couple of hours after I had run many Windows updates.

Now, however, it's freezing about 2 minutes after it's turned on, regardless of whether I do anything. I just now tried to right-click and view the display properties and it's frozen again.

I disabled SpeedStep in the BIOS and the problems went away.
