Default annoying noise - sound driver? - 04-26-2009, 06:42 AM

Hi, just received my mini 12, overall I'm happy with it. But...

After I removed Vista and installed XP, there is this annoying 'windy' noise that's coming from the bottom left of the laptop... it sound like when you leave the window just slightly open in a moving car. Very small noise, but it's so annoying.

If I play a sound, (anything even the ding that happens when xp changes volume), it goes away for a a few seconds.
If I disable the Realtek device from the cp, it goes away. But i have no sound obviously..

Anyone else experiencing this??

Thanks

Wow that was a long shot, but this means it's not an isolated thing...

Here's what I've done. Go to control panel and system and device manager, disable the Realtek HD audio. That will kill the sound, but u don't have audio support. Headphones plugged in solve it too. But these are not solutions... have to call dell i guess. Keep this thread updated...

Apparently it is a common problem with laptops. I been searching on google for a while and it seems as its a problem with the mic. I tried muting it so we'll see if it's gone for good.

I installed Windows 7 over the weekend...

No noise.
Dead silent.

But runs slower than xp .... But sure is pretty. I know I bought a Vista installed laptop, but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be able to run xp problem free?

What the hell??

Just mute the PC Beep under Realtek Sound Manager. Problem solved.

Few days ago I contacted Dell for this issue. They send me a box to send the netbook for repair. All really fast 3-4 days to get my mini back. Very good in this aspect. They say "defective speakers" and replace the speakers and the cable to motherboard. Well, the problem continues. I contacted Dell again and they told me to try to disconnect physically the Wifi card. I just did it and for now, the sound doesn't appear. They are waiting for my response.

How can you physically disconnect the Wifi card? You dissassemble the Mini 12?

I also have this minor issue. I am testing to mute sound right now.
