So like all of you, I am slightly offended at the fact that Dell blemishes this beautiful system with a mere 1 gig of RAM. Also, as most of you know, this is soldered
to the daughterboard and therefore cannot be swapped out for a bigger/faster chip. Well, here is my idea about increasing the RAM in your mini 12 - and its cheap too!
Using Eboostr (www.eboostr.com
) or ReadyBoost (built in feature on Vista), you can use either a USB thumbdrive or, what I was planning on doing, one of the slots in the built in 3-in-1 media card reader on the side of the mini 12. Now, you can buy a 2GB SD card fairly cheap, plop it in there and using that software, use it as virtual RAM! Yes, of course it won't act as fast as regular RAM modules connected to the mobo, but it still should add some speed. I will try this out tomorrow when my mini 12 comes and type up a better (read: cleaner and more detailed) how-to depending on how it goes. In the meantime, give me your thoughts or, better yet, go ahead and do it an report back!
Really excited to try this out as this was the only gripe I had about the mini 12.
