Yes I stopped indexing. I set graphics for best performance. I killed most of unnecessary services. Still Vista was unusable. You should experience that! I used it for one week. Then I was fed up with it....
Then I installed Win7 beta.
That had much faster response, and I liked it a lot.
Interfaces are cleaner, too.
But still.... after using it for a week, I started getting annoyed for the slow loading of web pages.
I thought it might be the hardware limitations that I have to live with until.... I tried Ubuntu Netbook Remix.
As CraziDesi said, once installed, switch to desktop mode, and install graphic driver and you are good to go.
It's muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch faster than Win7 beta.
No more frustration. It's just a functional notebook.
You have another option, of course.
Buy simple and aging Windows XP for $100.
If you have certain program that only runs in XP (you can try wine under Ubuntu, too), you might have no choice.
