Not just the capped RAM but the Mini12 also uses a lesser quality CCFL display. :?
Waiting on the Mini10 myself and just hoping Dell chooses to use the superior LED screen similar to the one in the Mini9!

I have owned several netbooks in the last few months, Dell mini 9, Lenovo S10, HP mini 1000 (Dont ask me why).
I currently have a Mini 12 and i like it the most of all the three. Primarily for one reason, WXGA resolution. It makes it much more confortable to use.
The screen backlight doe not appear to be any less bright than the other netbooks.
May be i will take some shots of the hp mini 1000 with LED next to the Dell mini 12.
mini 12 is a little slower than the mini 1000 but not noticeable in normal use.

Screen is much better, ive seen them side by side, and yes the 9's screen should be better, but it's only 9" which negates any benefit of a better quality screen, id take the 12 over the 9 anyday just on size and res.
As for upgrading the ram/ssd etc. Its just not necessary in a device like this...if you upgrade teh ram and ssd on the 9, you still only have a 9" screen with a crappy atom 1.3 processor...its still a basic netbook by any stretch of the imagination.
I bought my mini 12 for the wife to use for Internet, office docs, and email. the fact it can do 720p video, play some flash/java games and run google earth is a bonus.
If you are thinking of buying one of these with a view to upgrade, i would seriously consider a more functional fullsize notebook. these were never intended for that function. for the function they were intended for however, they perform spectacularly on XP.
