Speed up your mini 12 HDD by turning off Acoustic management - 01-27-2009, 09:06 PM
I just recieved my mini 12 with vista and i have been experimenting with various settings to speed it up.
I found that the acoustics management is turned-on on the drive but the bios does not have an option to disable it.
There are two tools available that allow you to disable it.
1. Htuil from samsung, but i could not get it to work on the mini so i went with option #2 below
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/ ... HUTIL.html
2. Ftool from Hitachi.

I downloaded the floppy disk creator, extracted it using winrar, copied all the files to a bootable usb disk i already have, booted the mini with it.
Now you can change the value of the "Acoustic Management" from 128 to 254 which effectively disables it. Now the drive is noticably faster. The drive is noticeable in a silent room, but it is still quiet enough for normal use.
