The 1.33ghz Z520 atom I think sells OEM for $40 and with gpu/ram something like $70. Intel can't be making much on that. Especially considering the Core 2 Duo chips start at a couple hundred and move up to very high prices which means big profit. People should understand when they get a netbook, most of what they are paying for is the build, not the components. OEMs can get these boards and build a computer with no screen for around $100. The screen alone or the mini 12 sells for over $200, so if you buy that netbook because it has the bigger screen, you are really just paying for that screen and shouldn't expect it to be any better than the mini 9 or 10. I was surprised that Dell put Vista on the original as it seems like doing that would trick consumers into thinking the processor must be somehow better when in reality it has the same benchmark as other Atoms. I fully expect netbooks to continue to sap the market for bigger laptops. The magazines want to make it seem like having an optical drive built into the notebook is a huge deal, but I have never owned a laptop with that and I'm sure many other consumers don't care. And I'm still not having any difficulty with any video. Whatever the latest 400 meg ubuntu updates were sped up video. This is weird since I don't see any updates to the psb on moblin. Maybe it is the kernel. Oh well, I'm not complaining. |

China white-box players eye AMD and VIA for netbooks larger than 12-inches, says paper Larger than 12" sounds interesting. I wonder if they can keep a 14 or 15" netbook under 2kg. | |

I thought Id share this over here with ya. http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/dell...0-not-10v.html So far it works like a dream compared to what it was... This is only for Ubuntu sorry. Although I can tell you windows 7 works like a champ on the GMA 500. Issues that it has now is 1. Cant do full 3d support (but if you leave the 3d driver installed you get about a 10 to 20% performance gain going on personal judgment on the percentages.) If you enable Full 3d count on Random Freezes. But I think myself and another MydellMini member have pretty well narrowed it down to any thing USB is what causes the freezes. So its a little good news of Ubuntu 9.04 users. Anyways I was going to make a new post in the 12 Area but rather than cluttering things up, I saw this thread and I wanted to share that with all the 12 Users who would like the Video to be functional. Also this not only fixes the resolution but gives you increased performance. I had one fix posted and about all it did was fix the resolution. This band-aids both. Do You have GMA 500 Graphics? Want to run Ubuntu 9.04 Here is a Link on How-To and get the best FrameRate possible and the correct Resolution. Visit my Blog Via Plasma Burn More Updates coming soon to the blog. |
