Office has a reported problem and solution with fp4ault.dll (a Front Page dll *sigh*)
can't install office
This is a Microsoft problem, not a dell mini 12 problem. If you search for fp4ault.dll on the internet, you will find the dll... along with a long list of results for people who couldn't install office.
As far as the dell mini 12 ability to run Word, it is no problem. Kelvinyam posted a video showing Word 2003 performance as well as Powerpoint vector graphics rendering.

I reviewed the youtube video you suggested; it looks easy enough and that alleviates a main concern I had about going with the Mini 12.
I noticed another video on the same page from a user who seemed to be using Office on the Mini 12 with no problem. Have you seen this one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHh9TCfJWUs

I'm running Office 2003 and I don't have problem. Mine is XP Home. Not sure about Office 2007 though. Check this out:
